There are no shortcuts to your own learning and the discovery of needs and issues. All those Innovation Platforms and Frameworks distract from what works best - taking action and iterating towards optimization. and THEN getting permission. If you do not have a CEO supporting and defending innovation projects ... leave. Most innovators got into trouble. Most innovators were appreciated AFTER making or saving money.

Oh, and I also learned this:

The only secret is putting in the work, and being willing to chase the truth instead defending turf.

Re: Considering a Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistant could help you in all the task and thus saves your time and value for your money

Re: The Pure Unadulterated Ignorance of the Crowds

Every single one of us.

Re: The Pure Unadulterated Ignorance of the Crowds

We are complicit.

Re: 10 Favorite books of all time, and one thing I learned from each

One of my favorites right now is The Story Grid (and its accompanying podcast). Shawn Coyne has been editing fiction for 25+ years at some of the biggest houses. He took all of his knowledge of that along with all of his research around writing and storytelling and created a framework for how to tell a story. I feel like I have learned so much more though since I started listening to the podcast that goes with it. Another book I go back to is "So Good They Can't Ignore You", which talks about how to be successful at a job rather than pining about your "dream". Basically how to love the job you have, finding meaning and happiness in whatever you do.

Re: Resilience as Strength

From a friend who has been through this already (Thank God I have friends who have already gone through things I haven't imagined yet)

"... The real problems seem to be the ubiquity of access to codependent relationships that cell phones give. And that's across text, social media, chat apps, etc.

The answer and counter measure is Trust. Fight like hell to make sure your kid trusts you and that you trust him. Make sure they know how important that is and how hard you are willing to fight for it on both sides, even if that means going through some tough conversations and restrictions."

Re: Resilience as Strength

Great post Thomas! Being a dad is tough, no matter how hard you try to do your best, you will still look back when they are grown and wonder if you did enough. I never paid much attention to their 'resume writing' services, but I have referred friends to the sample resume by industry page on their site. I also recall their email newsletter/course on LinkedIn stuff being super helpful, but I'm fuzzy on the details.

Thanks for the mention in the post :)

Re: todo: Update LinkedIn Profile

Nice! Thank you for pointing them out. I don't think their general 'resume writing' services are what I am personally looking for, but after a little digging around I found some blog posts of theirs that look helpful. So glad you thought of them!

Re: todo: Update LinkedIn Profile

Last time I checked http://blueskyresumes.com had some good resources.

Re: A Lutheran Confessional Treatment of Monasticism and the Christian Life

hmm, yeah, I don't even think I have a copy of it any more. =(

Re: A Lutheran Confessional Treatment of Monasticism and the Christian Life

Hi, I'm really interested in learning more about the Confessional Lutheran perspective on monasticism. I didn't really have words for those unspoken questions. Tonight, I found some words. These questions give me some structure for processing those nagging feelings.
